B.C 1200

The legend of Asclepius first emerged within ancient Greek culture. He was considered the god of medicine and was associated with healing, herbalism, and medical skills.

B.C 500

The ancient Greeks revered Hygieia and her father Asclepius. They established temples and sanctuaries where people could come to pray and seek blessings, particularly concerning medical and health matters. Ancient Greece also became the center for some of the most renowned medical studies and worship at the time. Greek physicians like Hippocrates introduced the famous Hippocratic Oath, laying the foundation for medical ethics. The medical deity Asclepius was highly venerated in the Greek and Roman worlds.

Middle Ages

Christian churches and monasteries became centers for healing and rehabilitation, with monks continuing to employ ancient medical traditions while also seeking cures through prayer and religious ceremonies.

1700s-1800s

Modern medicine began to take shape, medical research became more scientific, surgical techniques improved, and the invention of vaccines and antibiotics changed the way diseases were treated.

The worship of Asclepius began to rise throughout Greece, and temples were established for medical care and healing.

Aristotle became an advisor to the Asclepius temple in Epidaurus and documented many healing methods and rituals.

15th Century

During the Renaissance, medical knowledge from ancient Greece and Rome was reintroduced, leading to a revival in medical and scientific research.

1900s
